Sock Monkey Baby Shower

Growing up I never had a sock monkey, but if I were a kid now, I would LOVE to have a sock monkey. They are so cute! Given this, I was more than pleased to put together some goodies for a Sock Monkey Baby Shower with a Christmas twist. I made Cake Pops, and Cookies.

First, the cake pops were Vanilla Cake dyed Blue on the inside since the mother-to-be would be having a boy. I mixed the cake with Vanilla Frosting and then inserted m&m’s for the ears and froze the cake prior to dipping. For the hat I piped on a dab of royal icing and topped it with a red candy. So cute!

Then, I made some Vanilla Sugar Cookies and piped a sock monkey face on top with Vanilla Royal Icing. I added some pop with colored sugar and a santa hat for the Christmas twist!

Overall, I was very pleased with how all these goodies came together. The most challenging item was the cake pops, but I did learn a lot and they came out very well!

Monster High Cake

Do you have a child who is a fan of the show Monster High? If you do, then I bet they would love this cake!

I made this Monster High Cake for a client’s daughter who is a fan of the show. The cake is Vanilla and on the inside one layer is dyed Pink and the other is Black. This makes for a pretty exciting surprise when the cake is cut into! The frosting is Cream Cheese Buttercream. I did carve the cake down a bit to achieve the skull shape.

I heard later that the cake was a hit. The birthday girl was very surprised and happy!

Pure Pumpkin Pie

It’s that pie time of the year. When the weather turns colder, when the leaves change, when you start seeing Christmas commercials on the TV…this is when I start baking all sorts of pies.

I recently made a Pumpkin Pie for a small holiday get together. It was simple and basic with a buttery, flaky crust filled with a spiced pumpkin filling. The filling turned out great; not too sweet, and the pumpkin flavor really shined through. This pie is best served slightly cool with a dollop of whipped cream.

Classic Pecan Pie

Who loves a good pie?

Well, I sure do! Especially around the holiday season. Once the seasons change, the weather turns cooler, and the leaves start to change, I think about baking pies.

This time I made a Classic Pecan Pie. Simple, buttery crust filled with a sweet, sticky pecan filling and topped with yet more pecans. Best served at room temperature with a good sized scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream…or both!

Lemon Meringue Pie

Sweet, lemony, and tart!

Those words describe the flavors in this Lemon Meringue Pie. I made this pie using a basic Buttery Crust recipe and, once baked, filled it with a sweet and tangy Lemon Curd. After chilling for a bit, the pie was then topped with a sweet Swiss Meringue, which is a bit sweeter than your standard meringue.

For a final touch I broiled the meringue for a bit in the oven. Nice and toasty brown. All in all I would have to say that I am a fan!

Fall Theme Sugar Cookies

Turkeys, Pumpkins, Acorns, and Leaves oh my!

Fall sure is one of my favorite times of the year. I love seeing all the leaves change and  the sent of pumpkin is everywhere. So I was super excited to make these Fall Sugar Cookies!

The base is Vanilla Sugar Cookie dough and they are frosted with Vanilla Royal Icing. I chose to make 4 shapes: turkey, pumpkin, acorn, and a leaf.

I had fun with all of the different shapes, but I would have to say that the Turkey is my favorite. He’s so cute! After flooding all of the cookies I went back and accented various elements with some Sanding Sugar. It really makes them stand out.
