Recently, I made two cakes for a joint party. One of the cakes was an 80’s Themed Cake and the other was a Minute To Win It Cake.
The 80’s themed cake was a Marble Sheet Cake with Vanilla Buttercream. Marble cakes are great because you get both chocolate and vanilla flavors.
The top of the cake was a Pac-Man game, there was a Rubrics cube, and along the sides were various items from the 80’s like glasses, roller skates, atari, Mtv, space invaders, a boom box, and some music notes. I really like how it all came together.
I had a great time making the Rubrics cube. I stacked various layers of cake and then crumb coated it all. Next I put it on top of the sheet cake and then marked out the lines for the various squares of color. It was a bit tedious, but the end result is wonderful.
The Minute To Win It Cake was an 8in Round Marble Cake with Vanilla Buttercream. The top of the cake was designed after the Minute To Win It game show logo. I made the all over color a light blue to make it stand out a bit more, and it also complemented the rest of the colors, especially the red.
I had a great time designing these two cakes!
