Elmo is a popular figure with the little ones, so I was not suprised when I was asked to make a smash cake for a little boy turning 1. Elmo and Sesame Street was the theme of the party.
The cake was Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. I love carrot cake! It’s moist and flavorful, and goes best with a slightly sweet cream cheese frosting. I made the cake into a mini tired cake using a 6in round, 4in round, and a small little mound of cake for the Elmo Face on the top. On one tier of the cake was a Sesame Street sign with the little boy’s name on it. On the other tier was a Happy Birthday message. Primary colors were used for the borders on each tier.
To accompany this cake there were also Elmo Cupcakes. The cupcakes were Chocolate with Vanilla Buttercream. On top were Elmo Cookies, which were Sugar Cookies dyed red and shaped and decorated to look like a little Elmo face. Very simple and cute!
This cake was great because the Elmo face was lifted off and used for the little one to smash into and eat. I also heard that the Carrot Cake was enjoyed by the adults as well!
