Did you know….German Chocolate Cake is not from Germany!
Well, what makes it German then? The chocolate that goes into the cake base is a specific type called German chocolate. It was named after its founder Sam German. Hence, German Chocolate. But the cake came along much later when a recipe was posted in a local newspaper that called for German’s chocolate bar to be melted down and added to the cake. Sales of German’s Chocolate Bar skyrocketed and the company (Baker’s Chocolate) took notice and the cake soon became known as German Chocolate Cake.
